This book is the outcome of the Speelplaats research project held at the Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem. We proposed to the participants a method of working by imitation, as a means of reflecting on our position in the world as designers, in regard to our surroundings, our times, our contemporaries, our idols. It was an invitation to take a stance regarding our references and the things we admire, an open question posed to each contributor: how do you find your own voice?
